Lemont Furnace, PA – Penn State Fayette cross country traveled to Carnegie Mellon University last Saturday, October 7th, to compete in the Carnegie Mellon Invitational. At this invitational, the Roaring Lions would face off against division one, two and three schools. With the PSUAC championship coming up at the end of the month, Penn State Fayette were ready to compete.
The Roaring Lions finished in 15th place on the day. For the men's team, Nyoah Marteny, who finished at 30:14 and Aaron Mylan (31:13), were the front runners for Penn State Fayette. Michael Elliot followed up behind them with a time of 32:28. PJ Savini finished in 33:52. Carmen Cavanaugh completed the race in 35:11 and with Ty Hunker right behind him, finishing the day with a time of 35:15. Other runners that competed were Anthony Berdine (36:45), Austin Bittner (37:42) and Hayden Rhodes (39:21). For the women, Anna Elko finished with a time of 27:05 and Stephanie Hall, who completed the race in 32:12. Head Coach Joe Carei stated "it was tough, but good to get challenged after winning the last 3 invitationals."
Coming up this weekend, the final invitational of the regular season will begin this Saturday, October 14th at Hood College. After this weekend, the Roaring Lions will have one week off to prepare for the PSUAC Championship, which will occur Saturday, October 28th at Penn State Mont Alto.
