Bethlehem, Pa.- Penn State Fayette played the number one team in the conference, Penn State Lehigh Valley on Saturday. Fayette had a rough start playing in the Stabler Arena - Lehigh University being down 52-29 at the half. Needing a wakeup call in the second half, they got one. Fayette made their way back into the mix of the game. Outplaying Lehigh Valley offensively and defensively it was too late. Penn State Lehigh Valley made too much damage in the first half for Fayette to turn the game around. The Lady Roaring Lions came up short with a loss of 87-78.
Penn State Fayette had a group of athletes that helped them to stay in the game. Seniors Courtney Haines and Taylor Smith both got a double-double Saturday night. Haines had a game high of 25 points and 11 rebounds, while Smith had 14 points and 12 rebounds. Junior, Haley Moreland gave Fayette 18 points. Freshman Kori Whitehead had a very well offensive night only missing one shot, ending with 10.
Penn State Lehigh Valley was led by Junior Andrea Watkins with 23 points. Ashley Gordon and Hannah Bankes both had 18 points. Ebony Sanders also put up 10 points and led her team in rebounding with 13.
Fayette hosts Penn State Greater Allegheny Tuesday, January 31st in the Community Center Main Arena at 6:00 p.m.
