Roaring Lions compete at Westminster

The Roaring Lions track team travelled to Westminster, Saturday to compete in the Westminster Track and Field invitational.  Due to weather issues, it was the first meet the team competed in since mid -March.   The Invitational included 25 teams.  Some school records were set or broken, while at the same time new athletes finally competed in their first collegiate track meet.

Sophomore Ben Wilson led the team with an 8th place finish in the high jump.  He jumped 1.85 meters to finish, nearly a PR. 

As the first woman thrower in school history, Freshman Sarah Maniecki set a couple of records in the discus and javelin throws.  She tossed the discus 14.9 meters.  In the Javelin, her best throw was 24.44 meters.

Freshman Tyler Zelenick threw in the first track meet of his career.  He threw 8.96 meters in the shotput and 34.09 meters in the Javelin.  His throws bettered those of many competitors in the field. 

On the track, Freshman Nyoah Marteny won his heat in the 800 meters with a time of 2:11.  He was joined in the heat by freshman Hayden Rhodes who finished in 2:20 for a season best.  Marteny also ran the 3000 meter steeplechase, finishing 17th in 11:54.

Rhodes also joined Freshman PJ Savini in the 400 meters.  Rhodes ran 100.1 while Savini broke the tape in 58.  Savini also ran the 200 meters, setting a school record at …

Freshman Machaela Hall also ran the 400 meters and 800 meters in her first career college track meet.  She finished third in her heat of the 400 in a time of 1:14.  She came back in the 800 to complete the two lap race in 3:04.

The team will travel to Alderson Broaddus for the Battler Invitational.
