LeMont Furnace, Pa.- The Roaring Lion Men's Basketball Team added depth in both the front and back courts from the recruiting class of 2016. A Junior transfer, accompanied by a Sophomore, and four Freshman round out what head coach Mark John calls, "one of the programs strongest recruiting classes in seven years", according to head coach Mark John. Coach Mark John continued to say, "We brought in some much needed post play, and we complimented our back court extremely well with the addition of a few guards."
The post play mentioned by Coach John includes Uniontown graduate Ben Wilson, who also recently helped Coach Careigh's Roaring Lion Cross Country team win its first PSUAC Championship. Wilson is joined by Brady Winge, a graduate of University High in Morgantown, West Virginia. Winge, a 6'7" forward, has roots in the Uniontown area. Orin Joseph, of Montclair, New Jersey, is the final front-court addition to the Lions made this past off-season. "For the first time in a long time, we have depth in the post, both offensively and defensively. We've brought in a group of guys that take pride in rebounding the basketball, and they fit right in with Sean Smoggie and Sean Haines.", commented Coach John.
Complementing an experienced, embattled, and confident back-court, the Roaring Lion additions are highlighted by Jordan Pratt, brother of James Pratt who was a four year starter and point guard on the 2013 Penn State Fayette team that was a USCAA National Finalist team. Jordan Pratt, a graduate of Uniontown transferred into Fayette as a Juinor from Carlow College. Pratt is joined by high school teammate Jamar Dues and Yough High School graduate Lake Kosor. "It's exciting to have so many Uniontown guys on the roster. The additions to our back-court provide experience in Jordan and tremendous potential in Jamar and Blake," remarked Coach John. He then added, "the recruiting class of 2016 immediately meshed with the returning guys on the team. The Chemistry on this team is as strong as we've seen it in seven years, and we're looking forward to showing the Greater Uniontown Community how strong it really is when we open up at home on November 14th."
The Roaring Lions begin their season on the road at the Wolf's Bus Lines Tournament, hosted by shippensburg University on November 11th and 12th. The Roaring Lions will play Lock Haven University on Friday and Shippensburg on Saturday.
