Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus is proud to announce the grand opening of one of its newest and most anticipated facility amenities, the Cross Training and Group Fitness Center. Housed in the Community Center and conveniently located central to the Campus's Fitness Center, the Cross Training and Group Fitness Center supplements the campus's emphasis on the importance of health and wellness for students, faculty, staff, and community members.
The introduction of the new facility aligns with the Campus' goals and initiatives in being innovative and modern. A rather new concept in fitness industry trends, racquetball court conversions to fitness facilities have been and continue to seemingly create and more efficient usage of unused space. Working in conjunction with Advantage Sports and Fitness, Inc. and Escape Fitness USA LLC., Penn State Fayette converted 1 of 2 racquetball courts into what is anticipated to be a great new facility to accommodate a multitude of physical fitness training practices, methods, and programs.
The facility is designed to offer versatility in training regimens and to encourage training in numbers (Group Training). Equipped with functional and traditional tools/resources for exercise programs, a user can perform plyometric, agility, cardio-based, strength, and endurance training, all in one facility. Group training can accommodate up to 14 separate working stations, simultaneously. Facility equipment includes:

- Schwinn Airdyne Body Bike
- Hanging Heavy Punching Bag
- Rope Pull
- Soft Stackable Plyo Boxes
- Monkey Bars
- TRX Strap
- Half Rack w/ Olympic Bars and Bumper Plates
- Core Training Accessories (Bulgarian Bag, Vert Ball, Kettlebells, Medicine Ball, etc.)
- TiYR Flipping Tires
- Power Sled
- 40ft Turf Lane
A unique facility in its own, Penn State Fayette is proud to be the only Commonwealth Campus to offer such a facility to its users and members. Stephen Oberly, Kinesiology Instructor and Manager of Fitness Facilities, lead the project design. When asked what factors lead to its final design, Oberly stated "We wanted a facility new, fresh, and innovative; something to really differentiate our campus from others." Oberly continued with "the students deserve this. It's a great opportunity to create options for students' fitness programs rather than the common means of training through dumbbells and treadmills".
The Department of Athletics anticipates the new training facility to have a great impact on the current and prospective state of the Roaring Lions Athletic programs. When asked about its potential impact, Lou Zadecky, Athletic Director, stated "this facility will create a fresh new outlook on how student athletes can train and develop. The coaches will have an opportunity to train their student athletes in ways they haven't before." Zadecky continues with stating "Our athletes will be able to develop a matrix of new skills specific to their sport and personal athleticism."
The Cross Training and Group Fitness Center will officially open at the start of the Fall 16' semester for all students, faculty, staff, and community paying members.
